Hi,
Have you ever eaten radiccio? I planted some last spring and it was the most awful/bitter salad addition EVER! It was gross and ruined everything I tried to eat it with. The heads grew to large golf ball size and I kept havesting close-to-outer leaves. Bah! It was never any good!

Makes me wonder if the supermarket kind tastes any better. It must or nobody would buy any. Seems like a fad to me.

Anybody have better tasting radiccio?

Hi Beth, down here in Z-7 Va I try to sow my seeds (kale, collards, carrots) by Aug 20 - Sept 1st at the latest. If winter comes on early it helps to have these well established to withstand the cold/slow growing conditions. Cabbage/broccoli transplants also go out at the same time frame. Planting seeds now would be rolling the dice unless autumn stays mild thru Oct.

Right now I just thinned out the kale/collards and the broc/cabbages are expanding in growth rapidily. Still waiting for the slow germinating carrots to all pop up for thinning. No spinach this year but it can overwinter with care for a spring harvest. vgkg

well, we planted out garden on Sept 2. Right after a rain and hoping for our temperatures to be more mild. Most of our stuff has sprouted...
We have green beans (trying for a quick batch before cold weather gets us), peas, beets, radishes, spinach, brussell aprouts, cabbage, broccolli, cauliflower carrotts (still waiting on these to sprout), pumkins, orach (something new), and upland cress. Hoping everything turns out well for us since this is our first fall garden....
