Oh, sweet! Classic pictures of winter fragrance!

My winter honeysuckle should be blooming in a few weeks . . .

What a beauty in the snowy winter. Hopefully someone should have a vision and a mission in colder areas to plant hundreds and hundreds of Wintersweet in the park to bring the joy to see and to smell, even under snow.

Seems like you get both La Mei and Mei Hua (Prunus mume in the second picture). The Chimonanthus praecox looks like Grandiflorus variety with deep yellow color. The color on my Concolor variety just fades to washed out yellow after a few days. Vietnamese people also likes Mei Hua, but in their tropical climate they have to go with a replacement: Ochna serrulata. Its blooms are yellow and slightly fragrant, and later the black fruits also form Mei Hua shape with the lingering sepals that turn vivid red. The common name is therefore Liang Du Mei, or Twice Mei Hua. The English common name is Mickey Mouse Plant.

Longriver,
I often dream of getting permission from our local parks department to do just what you suggested. I've thought of hundreds of wintersweet, with lots of winter honeysuckle thrown in.
Great minds think alike, huh?
I have winter honeysuckle on one side of my house and wintersweet on the other. The smell carries just far enough that I can usually smell one or the other.
