How are your hardy gardenias doing?

Just wanting to know if your chuck hayes or Kleim's hardy cultivars are surviving the winter. I've bought 2 of the Kleim's in the past and planted in full sun, but never with any luck. It's not like they died in the winter, per se, but they never bloomed (even when purchased with buds) and never seemed to flourish, unlike the rest of my garden. I'm hesitant to try them again, but I remember the wonderful smell from my childhood in N. CA, where my mom had one planted under the kitchen window. Is the Chuck Hayes supposed to be hardier than Kleim's? I've only seen Kleim's in my local nurseries.

I bought a hardy gardenia from Nuccio's Nurseries of Altadena, Ca. It has been no flower for years and growth rate is very slow. Regular gardenia likes heat and humidity. Unless one has a warm green house at Portland or Seattle area.

I have many gardenia cultivars, they produce lots of blooms in my yard..

Hi - I have both Kleim's and Chuck. They were planted just last summer, and so far. so good. Chuck didn't bloom but it grew some. The Kleim's bloomed most of the summer from buds formed after planting. They are together in a west exposure that gets hot afternoon sun in the summer. The Fremont Street Michelia plantings (put in by Cistus) have some gardenias under them that are vigorous and healthy - not sure what variety, probably one of the two. - they are almost 3 feet high.

I have the Grif's select, hardy to zone 6 (according to Park's.) We've had an unusually warm winter so far (zone 6a, Ohio), and mine seems to be still alive.

It arrived in the fall with flower buds. I'm wondering whether these are good for next year or if I should just pinch them off to conserve energy.

After February's cold snap, my hardy gardenia isn't looking too well at all. I think I may have lost it. Anyone else having luck?

At least Park's is very good about their guarantees. If they are indeed dead, I'll have store credit.

Got my baby from Logee's late last year. I decided to bring it indoors after the first few freeze warnings we had and it started blooming this week.

Wow, that must smell great. Judging by the spotless leaves, I guess you are no newbie on this. Will you please share your methods of cultivation. Mine has small brown leaf spots on older leaves (on the shady side). What could be the problem?

If you live in the Pacific Northwest, Fred Meyer has 3 gallon 'Kleim's Hardy' Gardenias right now for $21.99 with a 20% off sale on. Don't know how long the sale will last. The plants are very nice sized.
