I don't have an answer for you, only my own experience with it. I bought a 'Goldflame' about 8 years ago and it was nicely fragrant. It was planted in the wrong spot with not enough sun and I wanted to move it, but by then it was huge and I thought, well, I'll just cut this one down and not bother to move it and buy another one. Big mistake. I bought another one and it was fragrant, but I hate the fragrance. It smells artificial, like perfume. Yuck. I only had it just last year, so I'm waiting to see if it is still the same this year. If it is, I'm going to be looking for another one.

I also went to a local nursery and they had a number of honeysuckles listed in their catalog as fragrant. I bought three and 2 are supposed to be fragrant. Last year was the first year with those too, and not one was fragrant. Giving them another season before deciding whether to replace some of them. I think I may have to try to buy them when they are in bloom to make sure they are fragrant.
