light, sweet at close range. very common here and has finished flowering for the year, normally starting in late winter/early spring. looks best when grown in sun as a trained vine. flowering will be sparse in shade and the vine will become rangy.
an early harbinger of spring and nice to see in the tops of bare trees along the roadside in its native range.

Than you very much Jeff for your helpful information. In your opinion, is it a good plant to grwo in hanging basket indoor during the winter months in Chicago and can still flower and smell the sweet secent in the room?

i've never heard of it being grown as an indoor containerized plant. i would think it needs sunlight to flower and don't know that it would bloom indoors in winter.
my gut feeling is that it won't be happy inside but i guess you'll just have to try if it is too cold there outdoors.

The discussion about Carolina Jessamine makes me a bit homesick for my former home of Beaufort, SC. It won't be happy inside, olympia. There are other true jasmines that will do a much better job for you.

My Carolina Jasmine survived cool April temperature indoor and managed to put couple of new leaves. It does not grow very much. Now it has been outdoor for a month. We just had 90+ temperature here, but its leaves gradually brown and dropped, both old and new leaves. They are almost all gone now. What might be the cause? Any advise??
