Landscape Fabric vs. Convallaria

I have about 50 lilly of the valley planted under my hedges. I planted them last spring. I put down landscape fabric, then mulched. Will they be able to grow through the fabric? Or should I remove the fabric and just mulch? I want to keep weeds down until the lilly of the valley can do it for me. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,
kentstar

I'd get that landscape fabric off now! This is not a tough plant that can push through fabric and mulch, and now is when those delicate flower spikes are forming. If they just got planted last year, you're better off weeding by hand -- mulch does not prevent all weeds anyway, and I doubt that so many will come up that weeding is going to be a huge chore. Good luck!

Thanks jimshy! I just went out and took the fabric off. I hope it's not too late. I did see some plants struggling to come up, so maybe all is not lost. If anything maybe it helped for a time anyway to keep the ground from warming too quickly and protected them for a time. But, I don't want to kill them. They cost enough too lol!

Help! I think I may have killed my lily-of-the-valley! I planted 30 pips last spring. They came up beautiful the first year. Then I placed landscape fabric over them in the fall. Now they aren't up at all! I took the fabric off immediately. Now it just has mulch there. Are they dead????

Well, I was slouthing around outside in the garden today, and low and behold..
My Lilly of the valleys are peeping up through the mulch! Yay, I didn't kill them all. Phew! Of course, someday I might be regretting that lol.

I regret planting them. They do smell so wonderful for a week but they smother more delicate perennials and spread and seed all over.
