I killed it, Right?

I have been pruning my dead tropical?? hibiscus that I had on the ground for a few years. In passing I cut off a couple branches off a dead-looking gardenia. On closer observation I noticed two tiny, tiny leaves coming out from one of the limbs close to the ground. So, if it was not dead, is it dead now. lol

Pruning your gardenia won't kill it. If it's reasonably healthy, it will simply sprout new leaves and branches from lower parts of the plant.
