Michelia foggii

What can you tell me about Michelia foggi? I was lucky enough to find one for sale this weekend but can't find much information online.
How much shade does it like? My M. figos seem to grow best with a little bit of sun instead of full shade, and I am wondering if M. foggii would be similar.
What hardiness zone is it in? I've seen 2 different reports and one of them said it wasn't hardy here.
What is the fragrance like?
When does it bloom? This plant is almost tree size already, but I don't see any buds.

While I'm asking about Michelias, does anyone know anything about M. foevolata? I may have miss spelled that. I have a plant that might be this species and would like to see pictures and know more about it.

Thanks,
Carrie

Carrie: Is it a new species or a new registered cultivar? A remote possibility of mis-labelling or new seedling? You might find out the information from the store. You might also check this web site:http://www.thoughtware.co.nz/pages/TheMicheliaSpecies2005.htm

Thank you for the link. From what I've read, M. foggii is a cross between M. figo and some other plant.

The fragrance is similar to other Michelias. It's quite complex like synthetic banana and apple blended with a deep floral heart similar to Ylang Ylang and a green camphoraceous "pine-y" undernote that can smell sometimes like "nail enamel", LOL. Anyway it's very nice. There's a terrestrial orchid (Peristeria elata) that smells very much like it too. Tried to describe the scent the best I could :0).

Mich. x foggii is a cross between m. figo and m. doltsopa. Culture should be very similar to figo, so definitely give it at least partial sun (doltsopa's a sunlover). Reports on hardiness and fragrance vary, so I'll take Serinus' description of scent, and Michael Dirr for hardiness, see the link below.

Enjoy!

Jim
