lavender
hyacinth
sweet violets
lily of the valley
lilacs
scented roses
phlox
?????? What else?
- P.S. I'm in zone 7 (barely almost zone 6) on the Jersey shore. (acidic soil and moderate moisture)....... |

Some I have are: Datura - extremely fragrant, blooms only at night Honeysuckle hardy jasmine (pink buds that open to white flowers) sweet peas (not nec. hardy, but they successfully reseed for me, so they come back every year) spanish broom harlequin glorybower echinacea and some iris are also quite fragrant, some aren't tho', so you need to smell them in bloom before planting them... |

| How much room ya got? ;>) Are you looking mainly for herbs and perennials? Shrubs? Full-sized trees? The FAQ for the forum doesn't distinguish between hardy and non-hardy plants, since what's hardy depends on where you are. You might want to take a look at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's handbook on fragrant plants, or Louise Wilder's "The Fragrant Path", which you can often find used. Both have tons of info. For a few extra picks, you could try one of the hardier gardenia varieties, abelias, magnolia virginiana or stellata, fothergilla gardenii, agastache, monarda, wallflowers, winter honeysuckle, nicotiana, some hosta varieties, sarcoccoca . . . . . . Enjoy! Jim |
