Granddukes are in general very slow growers. The buds in june stay small for very long but in July and August with the heat they grow fast to bloom. I love their fragrance. My J.grandduke is covered with buds too but with my experience last year I know the heat is the driving factor. If temp in 80s they just continue to bloom. Just wait for couple of weeks...

Yep, ditto on the heat-wanting. They're ok of they're not falling off.

I would love to see a picture of your Grand Duke, can you post one. I haed a 1 gallon but it died in the winter.... it didn't last but only about 5 months, and I live in so Calif. I think I will try again though.

they are all doing o.k. someone in garden web suggested that it was just waiting for a warm spell 80's and up.. he or she was exactly right.. the immature buds suddenly turn into a very fragrant flower... i have around 5 grand duke that was originaly in a 1 gallon container only 1 died during the rainy winter... they grow really slow.. they are all grown in containers. they are now transfered to 5 gallon pots... last year i couldnt decide if im willing to pay $80 for a 7 ft grand duke on a 9 gallon pot.. now that its giving me flowers everyday the money spent is well worth it.. there are some medium size available at our local nursery green thumb in canoga park for $22 4 ft. skinny plant.. ill see if i can post a pic of it

You can also have them planted in black plastic pots which warm up earlier.

I hope this has finally bloomed for you. My plant seemed about the same as yours when you posted, and I've since had a first batch of blooms. Hope yours has too!

High heat and humidity should do the trick.

I have a grand duke that has tiny shoots that are less than 2 inches long with several leaves on them. Its been this way for several months. It has grown one bud so far and is forming into a flower.

How can I encourage it to grow long shoots and more flowers before the summer ends. It is growing very slowly.
