Sudden Gardenia Death

| This was discussed a while ago and I'm not sure if we've found the good answer for it. I may have just found one.
Gardenia, along with blueberry, have shallow roots and will not take standing water/rain. Also, they will not take in water when the soil PH is not acid enough. One day, the plant may appear perfectly healthy, the next day, it will wilt and never recover. Even here near the east coast, the "acid" soil is not acid enough.
This is exactly what happened with one of my blueberry bushes. This 3' good looking plant suddenly wilts and still the same for two days. The moisture is good and there is no standing water/rain. The other 3 blueberry bushes are good.
I'll have to amend the soil again to save the other plants. |

| Archang89, Thank you for that information. That is certainly something that I did not know until now. Jerry |

| It smells like root rot. Most likely, the plant's, root under such condition in extended time: too much water too tight and wet soil poor poting soil too small or blockage of drain hole If a plant is suffered from lacking water. It is likely can be revived in time to recover by watering. But root rot plant first appears Ok, then dies ever. |

The plant is on a slightly slope, not too much water; The soil is > 10 year garden soil, with nice organic content; The plants are in the ground, no drain holes to speak about. Everything is possible. There can be many other theories.... |
