Your opinion pls - Star Jasmine or Angel Wing Jasmine?

I have 1 spot that I am thinking about planting a jasmine. The spot is right in front of master bedroom, one side of arbor, between 2 poles, facing South, and the size is about 4ft w x 10ft h. Fragrance, length of bloom period, evergreen, and size are my priority. If it is you, which one will you plant and why? How is your jasmine doing? Or, please suggest other plant if there is any recommendation.

Thank you in advance.

Well.....since you are in the 'lone star' state, maybe you could plant star jasmine! :) Wish I could grow jasmine outdoors around here.

I have star jasmine - i like it's glossy foliage - but i don't like the fragrance. star jasmine doesn't do too well in full sun. Requires part shade. It's good if you are into formal/classical garden.

never heard of angel wing jasmine.

But have u consider growing jasmine polyanthus. The fragrance is intoxicating. I just love the smell. i would cut the flowers and bring them indoor. Most of my neighbors here grow j.p.

Hmmm, 'which' star jasmine are we talking about here?

Most often it means trachelospermum jasminoides, one of the "non-jasmine jasmines" -- it's tough, blooms like crazy in the spring and then a few more during the summer.

Angelwing jasmine, jasminum nitidum, never flowers all at once, but it's almost always flowering; it's not as hardy as star jasmine.

Both are evergreen, with glossy green leaves, and will fill the area in a year.

Fragrance-wise, I find star jasmine a little too sweet, especially up close. Angelwing has a nice soft, scented-soap kinda scent. Can you find a nursery nearby to take a sniff test?

Jim
