This one is said to be from the Himalayas but it is actually subtropic and the temps where it grows are around 35F when at the lowest. So it probably doesnt need to be stratified like the deciduous magnolias.

I cant say for sure the best way to sow it, but would just keep it in a moist germinating mix and not let it dry out. Not too wet or it may rot. Sow it at about half an inch deep. This is based on my experience trying to germinate related species in the Michelia subsection.

Note, seeds of the subsection Michelia are best when they are fresh and you may get greatly reduced germination rates if they are older than a couple of months.

I would keep it out of full sun too. Even large plants of this species can get sun burned easily here. It probably needs really high humidity to be in full sun.
