I have a small one that's currently blooming.

I think it's safe to say that unless you know the plant is a vigorous grower like a brugmansia (Angel Trumpet) then potting up one size or maybe two is the safe route to go.

It might take more time but this way you know you're not going to drown the plant by over watering where the majority of the roots aren't in the potting mix so the growing medium will be too wet and can kill the roots since the roots aren't throughout the pot.

You can always check the progress of your roots after you potted it up one size (gently knock the root ball out of the pot) and if they've started to wrap around then pot up another size.

If you do put it in a large pot I would make sure your potting mix is very fast draining. I even tilt the pots to one side after watering to help drain off the perched water level.
