non blooming cestrum nostrum

i purchased night blooming jasmine (c. nostrun) hoping to smell its intense fragrance that i've read so much about. well i put it outside (about a month ago) for the summer in a spot that gets about 6-7 hours of sun. so far i see no evidence of flower buds. shouldn't i see buds by now? i've given it bloom booster food several times. is this the wrong time of year for flowering? should i be more patient in my wait for flowers? is there anything i can do to encourage flowering? the plant is about 2 feet tall and appears to have healthy leaves. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Believe it or not, two feet is still a little small for cestrum nocturnum -- it's not like most of the straight jasminum species, but a larger plant althogether.

Someone else can tell you how much feeding this one needs (I believe it likes regular fert while it's growing), but aside from waiting for it to get a bit bigger, it sounds like you're doing everything right. This one loves hot, humid temps, which we're finally seeing in the NYC area, so that might help as well.

Don't worry, it should be setting buds soon!

My night jasmine usually blooms in spring and late summer. If your's didn't bloom in spring there is a chance that
it may be blooming soon. Yes, it sounds like the plant is receiving optimum light and care. For now, I would only
keep it well watered. If you like, add a pinch of epson salt to the water as a one time only kind of thing. Next year
it may just bloom in spring and fall, that is only if the plant is in it's peak of health. Go easy on the fertilizer. I only
use less than half the recommended of a well balanced one like10-10-10 or 14-14-14. If I am especially in a generous
mood epsom salt added to the water only just as a bonus once or twice per year.

I threw away my two last year. The scent is just waaay too over powering for my liking. Good Luck!
