jasmine blossoms in a dish of water

Yesterday I plucked fat, unopened Jasminum sambac buds (Maid of Orleans) and floated them in a small dish of water. I've read about it but have only tried it before with flowers that had already opened. In the evening they started opening but the scent wasn't that strong. I kept them by my bed and I could smell them during the night but the real treat came this morning when I discovered how intensely scented they became!
I highly recommend this method if you haven't already tried it.

Thanks for the tip, Robert. My neighbor picks the buds off her huge old jasmines to use as a religious offering in a shrine in her home, and I often wondered why, given the buds weren't fragrant. Now I know.

Mehitabel,

That sounds like a lovely ritual. I can't think of a better offering than fragrant jasmine blooms!

That's a lovely idea Robert, I would love to try it, but it's heading into mid winter here and my MOO's are sleeping so I'll have to wait.
