Probably mockorange (Philadelphus). Deutzia don't smell much.

Some Deutzia cultivars have been known to be scented, and "little flowers" doesn't sound like most mockoranges that I know, though I could be wrong.

Can you post a picture to help with ID? Otherwise, I would do a search for images of deutzia on the web, and compare it with your plant, to see if they match up.

"My Lord they smell devine!" wouldn't be likely reaction with deutzia, but, whatever--should be easy to find out if either by looking at some pictures.
