| Thankyou snasxs fo your replies. You are right about M.yunnanensis having been changed to Magnolia dianica. Unfortunately here in Oz they are still marketed under the old name and the most commonly available cultivar is the compact, shrubby form "scented pearl". There is a hybrid variety that is commonly vailable here named Michelia "Coco" which I believe is a cross between M. figo and M. doltsopa. This plant has larger leaves than figo and large custard yellow flowers with a very strong, sweet scent. Magnolia coco is not offered comercially but is a beautiful plant! The only other varieties I have seen offered for sale is Michelia "Lady of the Night" which appears to be a large flowered form of M. figo. M. "bubbles" and M. "Mixed up miss" are vailable in the eastern states but I have not seen them offered locally. I will continue to try and source a M. x Alba and M. champaca but so far I haven't had any luck. |
