Night blooming cereus w/ strange aerial roots?

What the heck are the tiny white fibers sticking out of the topmost branches of my night blooming cereus? Definitely not blooms. They are about the thickness of a straight pin and grow exactly perpendicular to the branch. Kinda creepy looking, actually!

Those are normal especially in high humidity. In the wild the plant climbs onto and along objects/mediums by way of these aerials. My night blooming cereus(epiphylium oxypetalum)is 12 feet tall and grows aerials all along its unripe(green) branches but not on its woody older growth. These little roots can get quite long but on my plant they eventually dry up as they don't have anything to attach themselves to. I thought about making use of them by wrapping the bamboo canes that support the plant in moss and thoroughly wetting it once a week so that the ariels may grow into the support/moss,this way I can avoid having to fasten the plant with ties.If you don't like the appearance of these little roots you can simply remove them or if possible lower the humidity to prevent them from growing in the first place though the later may slow growth as these are tropical cactus and enjoy high humidity.

Thanks for the explanation! Yes, it's in a very humid room, but I'm going to move it outside so it won't make any more of those roots.
