hey flower gurus!

i'm wondering if i should give up on her or not? i got out to the garden this morning to find what i think to be black aphids all over my star jasmine! only on the new sprouts and flowers though, but they're everywhere!

then my poor well-meaning hubby sprayed it with my canola oil/murphy's oil soap/garlic/water mixture that i use for the aphids on my veggies (it works like a charm!!), but .... dear well meaning hubby put a little more canola oil in the mix than there should have been and now about a third of the plant is oily.

i've never seen black aphids, they're much smaller than the white ones, and don't move as much - even when disturbed. i'm not sure how to treat them since they're on my flowers, not my veggies. any suggestions?
