Morning Glory Flowers

Posted by closet_grower WI (My Page) on

I have Heavenly Blue Morning Glories (Ipomoea violacea L.) growing in a plant box under cfl's. The plant will grow flowers, but they typically die before blooming. I have had 2 flowers bloom once each but die shortly after. They were rootbound until yesterday, but other than that the only thing I figured it could have been was a lack of air flow since they are kind of confined. Any advice on how to keep the flowers blooming and alive?

RE: Morning Glory Flowers

the flowers only last one day after opening, then die.
they also like a lot of sun and lean soil. maybe that is the reason for the bud drop. are you fertilizing too much, maybe? i would think you would be able to grow these as annuals outdoors in wisconsin during summer. i also think they are not good candidates as houseplants, esp. in a closet, because of their strong light requirements and poor circulation in that environment. they won't get pollinated and produce seed in the closet, either, unless you do it by hand.
