Rooting a Madagascar Jasmine

I had an abundance of blooms on my Mad. Jasmine (stephanotis). I took some bout 20 and stuck them in a clear glass pitcher of water on my covered deck. The flowers stayed nicely a few days in the water. I kept them there in the water for bout a week. The flowers had turned to mush and were like jelly and slime. Here is where it got interesting. I went today, bout 2 days later 9 total, and was going to throw the water and old flowers out when I noticed all the stems that fell off the blooms underwater, maybe 2 inches at most, had sunk to the bottom. When I looked carefully, I saw they had three leaves on each tip where the flower had come off and the other end had roots. Still green as ever. I fished them out and stuck em in a plumeria potting mix, mostly perlite, and they seem to be doing well. Is this new or has this been done forever? Was a wonderful accident. Try it and see. Will post pics soon.
