I am in socal and am growing this plant outside. If you have a fast draining soil mix like I do, you can water it freely. However, mine is not in direct sun, as the leaves burn when I do that. The direct sun exposure might be too much for the plant. Can you move it to very bright light, but not direct sun?

Yes, I have a spot I can move it to. I'll try that and see how it does. It's in a catcus mix with alot of added perlite, so it's a fast-draining mixture. Maybe I'll try to give it a little water too. Thanks for the advise!

In my experience, they don't mind that much direct sun unless they get an abrupt change. If you mist them with sun directly on the leaves, that could burn them. But I would water a little more often in sun.

What mine seem to have a problem with indoors is lack of humidity and air circulation. They do so much better outdoors, my whole goal is just to get them to survive winter until I can get them out again. I used to have one that I struggled to keep at 3' that would turn crispy and completely defoliate several times per winter (huge mess). But then it would come back and bloom all over the place. Heaven. If I hadn't known better, I would've given it up for dead literally dozens of times in its lifetime.

MI is Michigan, right? Yours obviously has to stay indoors for the next few months. My concern for you is that you have this tiny plant, and if that happens you will think you did something wrong and give up. If it does struggle, just remember that we Northern gardeners can't always replicate everything in nature! Maybe try re-buying one in June and put it in a semi-sunny position outside till you get to know it. Good luck!
