I just recently purchased this plant,Radermachera kunming, from Hirts. It looks healthy but has scares all over. I can't figure out what might cause it. Would appreciate anyone here to enlighten me.

Hi OG! I've never grown Radermachera kunming before (though I did just buy a starter plant off eBay for $3.95 thanks to this forum!) but to me it looks like it could be a normal process of the green wood becoming corky. After all these are trees that can grow quite large in nature. -Robert

Robert, Thanks for the help. I wanted this plant for a while. Logee's price is too high for me. When I stop by Hirts, I saw they sale it with reasonable price and the shipping is way lower. So here it is. My initial thought was some kind of bug damage, but can't think of any bug can do such damage. It looks creepy... I also got another one, very hardy white forsythia but has no leaves at all. The twigs are dark brown looks like dead. I am not sure this plant is alive or not...

OG, I usually scrape just a bit of bark on the limbs to see if its green underneath. The tips do look dead in the picture, but some of the wood lower down looks alive.
