I have a some spending money and a wish list, now I just need to know if the plant I want exists in nature.

I am looking for the most fragrant annual that there is. I want to be able to smell it by walking by--not just by putting my nose up to it.

I want to plant them in my vegetable garden. So, it needs to be an annual. (I do a covercrop and till every year)

I am in zone 7 and I can grow most things from seed if I need to.

Does anyone know of a plant that fits this wish list?

My best guess would be Stock (Matthiola incana). I find the fragrance of stock is similar to Dutch Hyacinths. And both are exceptionally wafty.

They're very cheap too and only cost $2~3 for a six-pack at my local nurseries. They prefer the cooler seasons and when Summer comes, they usually bow down.

I want fragrant annuals this year, too.

I'm going to be trying to Stock and Alyssum.

if you have something for them to climb on, moonflower vine is evening-fragrant. you could also try heliotrope, flowering tobacco and sweet peas.
