starting fuchsia boliviana from seed

I bought on ebay 15 seeds of Fuchsia Boliviana. This species of fuchsia originated in the highlands of Bolivia where the clouds are always present and likes partial shade and diffused light. I wonder if I could start these seeds using the jiffy-7
heated greenhouse 72 kit. This kit is sold in homedepot stores. Does anybody know if this kit will do well to start these seeds? I appreciate information on this matter. Thank you. Jaime.

hi Jaime,
I have never used jiffy7 for growing fuchsia seeds, only the method described in the FAQ. Sorry that I can't be more positive, but you could try 2 of the 15 seeds and see if they germinate - Kath :)

Hi Jaime,
I got some cuttings of this fuchsia from a friend. I also got several large seed pods (berrys). The cuttings all took, but then they got too much sun and died on me. So I squashed the seed pods in the pot with the dead cuttings barely covered them with damp potting soil and I can tell you I have tons of seedlings. I have them in an unheated greenhouse and they are doing well, growing quickly. If you don't have luck let me know in spring and I will send you a plant or cuttings, mine should be big by then. It is a very beautiful plant.

Glad to hear your seedlings are doing well Rebecca. When you grow them on into new fuchsia plants, you'll probably find you have different variations of the mother plant, as fuchsias rarely come 'true' from seed - Let us know - Kath:)

Do you just plant the berry or cut in half or just squash it into a pulp, Rebecca. You may end up with a pink one! (f.Boliviana X f.Boliviana alba.)
