Growing from seed

I bought some tree fuchsia seeds whilst in New Zealand last year, and have had great difficulty growing them.
Only one seedling germinated and thankfully so far it is still alive, but only just.
It is about 12 inches tall and is on my kitchen windowsill.
All the lower leaves started to dry at the tips and now they have totally died & fallen off.
This is spreading up the seedling, with only the top couple of leaves being unaffected.
It doesn't seem to have grown at all in the last 3 or 4 months.
This doesn't seem to fit in with any of the pests and diseases listed in the FAQ section. I haven't treated it with anything yet for fear of killing it off completely
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Elizabeth

RE: Growing from seed

Hi Eliza

Growing from seed is something that I haven't really bothered with, having a good friend with a large Fuchsia Nursery has meant that I can get virtually any cultivars I need.

I do know that germination can be somewhat eratic, even if you follow the instructions given by those who do a lot of hybridising and use this method frequently.

Regarding your seedling, have you thought about taking the top couple of leaves and the growing tip and using this as a cutting?

Tight....
