Fuchsia 'Helen Moore'

I recently bought this plant and would like to know more about its habits, please.

It has a variegated leaf - chartreuse and green, and quite small flowers of strong pink with a white skirt. Sort of 'full single'.

It has good top growth coming from a fairly skimpy root ball. Is this usual for the variety?

And: can anyone name a fuchsia with the following features - lax but upright growth, large leaves (for a fuchsia) and a 'flyaway split skirt'? The flowers are two tones of an 'orange-y-pink' similar to one named 'Orange Drops'.
Quite frost tender, but does not have the appearance of F.fulgens and Co.
I regret I cannot provide a picture. I've not met another fuchsia with this floral habit at all and it doesn't appear in any of the references I've checked. I found it on a wayside dumping of garden refuse.

Hi Vetivert,
I personally don't know this fuchsia, but have found a piece of info for you, see the link below, Kath :)

Here is a link that might be useful: http://www.nfsnz.orcon.net.nz/well01.htm

Hi Vetivert,

Like Kath I found the following information re: Fuchsia "Helen Moore", it is taken from the Wellington Fuchsia Society Inc website.

" Helen Moore put on a magnificent display of her new sport of 'Conspicua' called 'Helen Moore' which has the prettiest lime green veined leaves when young. The leaves darken with age and the semi-double flowers are scarlet corolla and white sepals. These plants attracted very favourable comments ……"

Regarding your ‘find’ – unfortunately even with a photograph, with over 12,000 cultivars now known it is almost impossible to name, it may even be a stray seedling from a plant that has been thrown away, in which case it will not be named anyway – my advice would be to enjoy it…

I hope this helps

Tight.....

Thank you both for the lead. I had no idea the plant is a very local 'local'!

Thank you, Tight, I do enjoy my 'oddity', privately named 'Petticoats Loose' after the jig of the same name. It reminds me of one of those fairground rides where the seats fly out on an angle once the machine is going. Not at all sedate!
