I need help!!!

I went to the PNW garden show and bought two hardy fuchsias. One named Beverly and one named David and I thought I would keep them inside until it was warm and frost-free for them.

Well, one week later David lost all his leaves and shriveled up and Beverly was soon to follow. I have no idea what was doing this, and I sprayed for mites when the leaves were starting to shrivel and fall off.

I think they are dead. What could it be? Is there any hope they will come back? I am sad :-(, I spent two years looking for these exact plants and now this happens.

Well, Thank you all for reading this post. -Mia (fuchsia killer)

Hi Mia

From the evidence you have given I don’t think you will be charged with ‘murder’.

For something like this to happen in such a short space of time after you have just got them it would appear the problem(s) were already there.

For both plants to behave in exactly the same way it is obvious that they have the same condition, just what is that condition is where the detective work comes in.

We need to interrogate (ooops), I mean ask you some questions…..

1. Were the plants under/over watered?

2. Was there any evidence of pest/disease (have you checked the soil for grubs)?

3. Was the temperature very warm where you had them indoors?

4. Was the light level good where you had them indoors?

5. When you remove a small piece of bark (using a finger nail) from low down at the base of the stem (near soil level) is this green?

6. What condition is the soil in the pots now (wet/dry/moist)?

7. Where are the plants now?

Having established the aforementioned we can then pass sentence.
