Need fuschia question answered, please

I overwintered my fuschia (can't remember the botanical name but it's the one with the purple outside and pink-red interior of flower)inside. It has done well and has sprouted long new vines. Will it bloom this year? What do I need to do? Can it be planted in yard? If so, what does it like? I love this plant. This is my second fuschia. First one I killed dead as a door nail. Thank you for your help!!!

Hi Barb,
Did you cut it back before overwintering it? If not do it now, leaving 2 or 3 pairs of leaves on each stem above soil level. You need to give it some fresh soil, carefully tease out the old soil and replace. After re-potting don't feed for the first month.

If it has trailing growth best to plant it into a hanging pot, if growth is upright then it can go into the garden after all risk of night frost has gone, but start off by putting it out during the day and bringing it in at night to harden it off.

They prefer to be in a position out of the hot pm sun during the summertime - Kath:)

Kath, thank you so much for responding. Seems I have a bit of work to do since I did not cut it back. Last fall, it died back in the pot while I had it inside (brought it in from the porch when started getting cold). I thought it was dead since the branches died. But lo and behold, a couple months ago (it has been sitting in a bright window area), it started sprouting leaves. I was ecstatic! Some of the tendrils are about 2 ft. long now. I will grit my teeth and cut them back (LOL). What type soil is best for this repotting? What type fertilizer when I start to feed it? Seems this one will remain a potted plant. Again, thank you, Kath!!! P.S. it hangs on the front porch on the south side of the house, but is out of direct sunlight. Is that OK?

RE: Need fuschia question answered, please

Yes Barb it's ok where it is as long as it is out of direct sunlight.

As long as it is a free-draining soil it will be ok, not something like pure peat, if using that type of soil add small grit too.

When new leaves appear feed a quarter strength balanced feed NPK 20-20-20 every watering, which should be done in the mornings - Kath :)

I guess I lucked out, Kath. I got into the habit of watering it each morning! Again, thank you for your help.
