Is there a fuchsia that tolerates full sun?

| I'm running out of space in the small amount of shady areas in my landscape. However, there are a lot of sunny spots that need more plants. I'd like to find a fuchsia that can tolerate full sun (if it exists). Unfortunately, I'm fighting the elements here... southern exposure with sun from 10 a.m. until it sets. It's hot, too.
If not fuchsia, is there a reasonable alternative that will give me the showy blooms I crave?
Thanks! |

| Many varieties of hardy fuchsia will grow perfectly happily in full sun in my NW garden, but my zone 8 climate is quite a bit different than yours. I'd test out some of the hardiest forms first to see how they do - any of the straight magellanica cultivars. Other sun-loving choices that will offer a similar flower appearance and long bloom season would be penstemon and cape fuchsia, Phygelius, but I'm not sure how they will respond to your high summer humidity. That is often a rather limiting factor :-) |
