can fuschias climb?

I just got a fuschia from my mother-in-law and planted it in my dappled shade front yard. I'd like to train it to climb an arbor - is this possible?

And is it totally dormant in the winter? Does that mean I have to cut it back? I don't want to have to start over with a new plant every year...

They can be trained, but very few get that tall. Yes they will go dormant; it's required as part of their growth. Do not cut it back for winter. Not knowing which one you have, I can't tell about protecting in winter.

Here's a listing of fuschias so you can look for one that can be trained.

Here is a link that might be useful: Fuschias

Hi Yelhsa

The only true climbing fuchsia is Lady Boothby, here in the UK, when well feed during the growing season, it can get to 6ft plus. It is hardy and I cut mine back to 3ft every Spring after all risk of frost has gone. - Kath :)
