Questions: My First Fuschia

Posted by luvmysheltie (My Page) on

I just purchased my first fuschia. Dark pink with purple. Bottom is blooming so I hope top will bloom shortly. My first question is "After bloom dies do I just pinch the bloom off or do I pinch the green also for it to continue blooming." Next question: I have read how to overwinter it in the dark which I plan to do. In the spring do I take it out on nice days and put it back for the nite or just want until all danger of frost is over and bring it out. I understand when it gets 2 sets of leaves I start pinching. Do I just pinch the end out and then wait until it makes two more sets of leaves before pinching again? And when do I stop pinching? Sorry about such a long post. Thanks in advance. I sure hope I can get this to live.

RE: Questions: My First Fuschia

No, just pulling off the dead bloom and the little stem is enough. You only need to pinch out the tip once; side branching will occur. Once you pinch out a growing tip, it will take 6 weeks for that branch to set blooms.
