Fuchsia Excorticata Graft-Compatibility

Posted by ashok_ncal CA z9b (My Page) on

I recently acquired a small specimen of Fuchsia excorticata, the New Zealand native tree-fuchsia.

If my small plant takes off and (eventually) grows large, I thought that it might be fun to try grafting showy basket-type fuschia scions onto appropriately sited twigs or shoots.

Does anyone know whether standard ornamental hybrid fuschias are graft-compatible with F. excorticata? I can't seem to find any information on this on the web.

Never heard of grafting fuschias, Maybe try it with a more common variety first before risking a rare variety.

Local plant sale over the weekend and I picked up F. procumbens; a ground cover type from NZ with upward pointing blooms.
