New Fuchsia

My son gave me a fuchsia yesterday for Mother's Day and I really want to try and keep it as long as possible. I don't know the variety...the list is quite overwhelming.

I am adding a link to pictures of my fuchsia and if anyone can identify it I would be very appreciative.

I live in NE Pennsylvania. Climate is usually warmer than it is right now in May. Humid in the summer. I have it in the original pot right now which is about a 4 inch.

My questions along with what type of fuchsia I have and can I keep it as a house plant or is it better to plant outside until the weather gets cold.

Thank you for your help.

Michele

Hard to say about variety, but Leonora looks similar. This is a tender upright type. I don't suggest keeping any fuschia indoors as they enjoy cool nights. They are heavy feeders so fertilize monthly. In fall it will shed it's leaves and can be stored in an unheated garage or basement. They require this period of dormancy. Do not prune until you see new growth in spring. If you experience late frosts, it can be kept inside on a sunny windowsill during the nights.

Hi Michele

It may be Border Queen - a good commercial variety.

Have a look at the picture at:

Thank you for your help. I repotted the plant and had it inside. It was doing OK. Then I put it outside, as suggested, but I think it is still to cold here. It is on my front porch and all the flowers are falling off. It looks quite sickly.

Hope it perks up. I am usually very good with plants.

Hi

What sort of night temperatures are you having?

I don't usually bring my plants inside unless the temperature is predicted to fall below 6°C (42.8°F).

As you have recently been given this plant it may be that the problem occured a while ago and is only manifesting itself now. Have a look at the rootball and see if there are healthy white roots or brown dead roots. This will also give you an indication if the plant is over water or under watered.

All may not be lost, but it may take a while to recover.

Let me know.

Oh it has been well below 42F here. I have it on my front porch to protect it in case of frost (which we have had).

I brought it in an pull off the dead flowers, feed it and I think I will leave it inside for the next few days. The temps are suppose to be normal by the end of the week, which means 70-80's during the day. Night will be in the 50's.....hopefully, if you can believe the "weatherman" LOL
