I've spent the morning websurfing & searching this forum, but still can't find what I'm looking for.
I'm planting a semi-shade Whiskey barrel & purchased 2 small "Fuchsia Hybrids" to add to it. "Fuchsia Hybrid" is all that's on the plant tag except for the usual "part sun, moist soil, 15" tall x 24" wide" info.
Some of the plants at the store were already blooming, & the blossoms don't resemble what Fuchsias usually look like. the buds are almost honeysuckle-like in appearance, & the flowers are orange & tubular with a slight flare at the open end.
Hi Breezyb, It is one of the Triphylla type fuchsias, but which one I can't tell you yet, as it is still in bud. This type have long tubular flowers and colours vary from pink, orange and red. It can take heat a bit better than the ordinary cultivars - Kath :)
I'll guess it's probably Fuchsia 'Gartenmeister Bonstedt', because that's the Triphylla hybrid most widely sold in the big box stores, and the one most widely available in the U.S. It should reach to about 2' tall, maybe 3' if it really goes bonkers. It is VERY heat tolerant--Fuchsia triphylla originates from East India. It is not, however, cold-hardy. If you don't bring it in before the temps drop below freezing, it will be deader than dead. If you DO bring it in, it will sulk and look AWFUL by the time it can safely go out again, recovering completely only about September, just before the frosts return. Treat it as an annual.
