Stubborn Fuchsias...

| I have two fuchsias that refuse to put out new shoots, these are three year old plants. They are alive, cadmium layer is green, good root system, just won't break. I've been misting with warm water every day but still no sign of shoots. Has anyone else had this problem and overcome it? Of course wouldn't you know it, these are varieties that I didn't take cuttings from last year. I don't want to lose them, any suggestions?

| I don't have an answer, but because this is a slow forum, I'll reply so that your question doesn't starve for attention. I would be worried. All of my own Fuchsias, all overwintered outdoors, have resprouted. However, my Fuchsias have been sluggish this year, and I suspect that it is from the late severe freeze we had--in February I think it was. It probably killed a lot of buds that were not fully hardened. Could that have happened to yours as well? |

| atash, I think you might have hit the nail on the head. My Fuchsias all overwintered in a greenhouse that had enough heat to keep them from freezing. In february, we had a sudden freeze here and the temperature did go down to 36 in the greenhouse two nights. If this is the case the buds could have been damaged, hopefully they will resprout from the root, I think patience is the key word here. Thanks for the input. lesson learned, favorite Fuchsias, take lots of cuttings. A...... |
