my sad fuchsias

i have a hanging basket with starts, 4 small ones, that have been looking sad to morbid . . there is new growth but they're always wilted looking and the bottom leaves shrivel and fall off. i thought maybe they weren't getting enough water, then i thought maybe too much sun, but to know avail . . right now they get only afternoon sun starting around 3:00 and i've been trying to keep the soil moist but not soaked. i moved them to an all day shady spot and that didn't make much of a difference, i'm limited in my hanging options. what do you think?

I'm having a similar problem with one of my 2 baskets. I have then hanging on a west facing deck. The basket on the north-open end of my deck looks healthy. The one on the south-closed end of my deck looks terrible! Really wilted, looks like it's getting ready to die! Water them both every day, soil is moist! Don't want to lose it. Help!

Rojogan, the one on the south-closed end deck is probably not getting enough ventilation.

Madrona, you say "4 small starts" do you mean 4 small rooted cuttings? If so you would be better off putting them into 4 small pots and grow them on a bit first.

well they're not root cuttings, i bought them at a nursery in 1" pots. but maybe the container is to large for them even so . . thanks for the tip : ) madrona

Yes Madrona, Put them into 3" or 4" pots and wait until the roots fill the pots, meanwhile pinch out the growing tips, this will encourage them to grow more bushy - Kath:)
