Hello
I've been looking but haven't really found what I want to know. Do all fuchsias become woody? We bought Dark Eyes today and I'm already hearing about plans to get it to survive winter (provided it survives the summer) Thanx!

Lenore :)

Hi Lenore,
Yes they all become woody, this is quite natural, that is why they are cut back each year to promote new growth for the following season - Kath :)

RE: General question

Hi Lenore

The fuchsia is a deciduous shrub which will only flower on the new growth. Over time the stems can become very thick and most growers will in general only keep a plant (bonsai, standards, fans etc and baskets being exceptions) in a pot for three or four years at the most.

Another excuse for taking cuttings, as if we needed one.

Tight....
