Fuchsia newbie in Charleston, SC

I bought a gorgeous fuchsia at Home Depot about a month ago. It still seems to be doing ok, but I basically have no idea what I am doing. I know that it can't stand direct sunlight so I have it hanging in the shade of a tree. I don't know if I should move it to my patio which is mostly shade for the entire day or leave it where it is. It is so hot in Charleston and I want to prevent it from being zapped. Does anyone have an opinion about moving it to predominate shade or leaving it where it is currently doing well getting some light? It will be in the 90's here within a week or two! I don't know how much to water it. Every day? Twice a day? What about disease? I know that they are heavy feeders, but what does that mean? Miracle Grow every week or how often? Does my darling plant have a chance? Thanks for the help!

What has happened to all the very knowledgeable Fuchsia growers who use to post here, they are sorely missed. I'll try to answer this for you with my somewhat limited knowledge. Most Fuchsias don't like hot climates, some that can tolerate higher temps are the tryphylla types (long tubes), as to the one you have keep it shaded and as cool as possible, misting might help, don't do this if the sun is shining on it the leaves will burn. I have found even up here you can easily cook the roots if kept too wet when the temp is high. The link below shows some of the Fuchsias that are somewhat heat tolerant. I'm no expert by any means but have been growing Fuchsia for over 30 years, you know the trial and error thing.
The American Fuchsia Society is a good place to go for more information http://www.americanfuchsiasociety.org/

Good luck with your Fuchsia.

hi trailng fuchsias dont like direct sun if you have it in the shade and its ok leave it there as for water more plants are killed ny over watwering than by under i al ways pick up the basket if its light it needs a drink if its heavy it dosnt as for feeding miricle grow is a good food for fuchsias i water from the top and when the water runs out through the bottom i stop i dont know if you have a dry heat or hi humidity like texas but i used to spray the basket first thing in the morning and again late everning but most important if the plant is wilting check that it is dry and wants a drink and your not boiling the roots
