| HELP! HELP! HELP! My beautiful plant isn't doing well in the heat wave we are currently having. I have her on my shaded patio, but she is looking terrible. CAN THIS PLANT BE SAVED???? What should I do? Bring her inside (worried about "shocking" her if I do that). Or should I put her in the garage during the hottest part of the day? Please help! I don't want to lose her. She's so pretty or at least she was. PS- :( It's supposed to be 97' today. :( |

Most Fuchsias can't stand that kind of heat. You could try putting it in the coolest, out of the sun, place you can find, mist the foliage with water and hope for the best. Keep your Fuchsia a little on the dry side in these temps or you could cook the roots. There are a few fuchsias that are more heat tolerant, Angel's Earrings is one. Even here on Vancouver Island when the temps get up in the 80's my Fuchsias start to suffer. Good Luck. A...... |

| Luckily, it wasn't that hot today. I put it in the deepest shade on the patio and for extra measure put an umbrella over it. I know that it's not going to be the beauty that it was 6 weeks ago, but I just don't want it to die. I know it will do great again in the fall b/c it's so mild here. (At least I think it would). It is just so hot here and it seems to be getting so earlier and earlier. So many things do not do well b/c of the blazing sun. However, it's a great place for hibiscus. I have both tropical and hardy and they are doing great. But I just love the fuchsias and don't want to move to the mountains to enjoy them. Would putting it in the garage during the hottest part of the idea be something to do or not a good idea? Thanks for the help. Natalie :) |

It might if your garage is cool but it will need light, will the fuchsia get any light? Fuchsias in deep shade won't bloom and will grow spindly. Do you know which variety you have? Fuchsias with single flowers fare somewhat better than doubles when heat is an issue. Here in the PNW there are quite a few heat tolerant Fuchsias but we are not talking your kind of heat. Some of the triphylla (long tube) types do better in the warmer temps. for example Gartenmeister Bonstedt. A...... |

| Since my garage is here in Charleston, cool is not really an option. The only light available would be the actual garage light. I wasn't really thinking that it would live in there, but rather that I would move it back and forth during the heat of the day. I wonder if it's already spindly b/c of the deep shade on my patio. I thought it was because part of it was in the sun and got a little zapped. It's hard to say. I don't really know anything about fuchsias except that I like them. I bought this one at Home Depot and plan to get my money back if it dies. However, I want to plant some in the ground, but I guess that would be a real long shot here in Charleston. My patio backs up to the woods and is very shady. Don't know enough about them to know if anything would do there. Next to hydrangeas they are my favorites. As for this variety, I have no idea. The basket just said Fuchsia, but no other info. It's hot pink and purple. I assume that it's a single although without seeing the difference, I don't know. I have never seen any kind identified. Do you have any pictures of yours? I'd love to see some thriving. |

| hi no fuchsia likes to be in the full sun all day most will cope with some to mutch sun dries the leaves out and they drop off if you do have to plant in full sun i would spray the plants first thing before the sun gets on them so the leaves have time to dry or the water drops will burn the leaves as aftermidnight said triphylla types do better in the heat but not direct sun light for a shady bed i would grow mrs popple daid empress of prussia genral monk becon becon rosa geni snow cap all of these will stand in the ground all year round as they are all hardy if you want to do hanning baskets i would use single flowering plants as they fair better in hot plaices an good plant would be aloha coachman my favorite single is trimley bells but im sorry to say you will not get in the usa its only in the uk happy growing |
