I just purchased 2 fuchsias on the internet, from forest farm. One is an upright and the other is a shrub. They are both young, and i needed to know just when do you start pinching them back to make them bushy? and just where do you start to pinch?

When you say young fuchsias what size do you mean. Are they the basket stuffer size 2-4 inch pots.

Pinching back fuchsias is taking any where from just the tip of a branch or taking it back to shape it from a little to lots. The plants really are quite tough and forgiving.

Depending on whether the flower is a single, semi-double or double it will take anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks for the plant to bloom after pinching it back. Basket stuffers and start can take that long when you buy them as well.

As long as the plant has leafed out and the flower buds are looking healthy they will bloom. Sometimes it seems like it takes forever for the blooms to finally open.

Thank you hill60s for your reply to my post on the pinching of my two young fuchsias. I will be saving these tips in my fuchsia folder. Thank you Lisa

You are most welcome. I'm not an expert by any means but I seem to be able to grow them fairly well where I live. This forum used to be a very active forum and I learned lot from it over time. The archives here might be a good source of information for you. The FAQ section was very helpful for me.
