Fuchsia magellanica success in Zone 5

I have read conflicting information on the hardiness of this plant. Some companies claim it to be hardy to Zone 3 (with protection), while others claim it to be only hardy to Zone 7. I planted one this year and would like to overwinter it in the ground. I am wondering if anyone in a Zone 5b has had this plant come back after an average winter. If so what did you do to protect it? I've read some people suggest a 6" mulch, others a 'water wall', but it would be nice to get suggestions from someone in a Z5 that has had success.

I have no problems to overwintering them in the stockholm area I just plant them deep about 15-20cm under the ground, in a welldrained area I have not protected them at all during the winter. Don´t know what am zone Stockholm would be the climat varies a lot in this region and there are many different swedish gardeningzones in the area.

Asa_s how cold does it usually get in the winter where you are? Zone 5 average is -15 F to -20 F, but I'd say -10 F is more common where I am. Although last winter was very mild, I don't think it even got into the negatives.

It usally doesn´t get colder than around -25C = -13F, the winter is quite long here in sweden.
