Can I grow fushia from seed
| | |
Posted by connie-k 5 (My Page) on Mon, Jul 26, 10 at 14:10
I have a hanging Fushia and I generally keep all of the blooms picked (I use them for pressed flowers) but I missed a couple and now have two seed pods, once has fallen off and the other is close to dropping.
Can I plant these seeds and if so when-now or after they dry.
Any help in the right direction is appreciated

| Squish the ripe pod in a container of water, if the seeds if any are viable usually sink to the bottom. Pour off the water and pulp, dry the seed on a piece of paper towel and yes you can plant immediately. |

| Sure you can, though it is best to do this in spring. If you decide to germinate them now, make sure they are not frosted during winter. Remember, if your plant is a hybrid the seeds will not come true ie. will not be identical to the parent plant. |

Thanks I have some seed that are just about ready and so far no frost yet, so may-be I can start them inside and raise them as house plants until next summer. Not sure what kind I have, but I pressed them to use on my cards and was very happy with the results, so next year I will be looking for different varieties.
