I have a Fuchsia'Rosa Beacon' which has bloomed all summer with its pretty light pink blossoms. All of a sudden one branch is putting out bicolor flowers of a deeper pink and a contrasing pink-purple. Has anyone here had that happen? Any ideas as to the cause?

Yes Chazy,
The correct name of your fuchsia is 'Beacon Rosa' which originally was a sport from 'Beacon', that particular branch of your plant has reverted back to 'Beacon' and is quite a common occurence - Kath:)

I guess the label on the plant had the 2 words reversed. Thankyou for the explanation. If I cut off that branch and propagate it I will have 2 different varieties of fuchsia. Fun!

Hi Chazy

Fuchsias often throw up 'sports' and apart from the hybridists raising new plants this is how many of the new varieties eminate. If I was you I would obtain a photograph of 'Beacon' to check that what you have is actually a plant reverting and not a new 'sport'. If the colour of the sepals or corolla is different to Beacon or Beacon Rosa you have a new plant which may be unique and you should nurture this. Post a reply and I will explain the best way of dealing with this. Good luck.

Tight,I looked at every photo of 'Beacon' that I could find on the Internet (in all languages),and the color varies greatly fom photo to photo. I do think the flowers I have are really 'Beacon'. It certainly is an interesting phenomenon. Thanks.
