fuchias not going dormant

hi there :),

i got my fuchsias standing in a cold basement with a north facing window that doesn't get much light, they have been down there for about 3 weeks now and before that they where outside in a unheated greenhouse but for some reason they aren't going dormant, they haven't dropped their leaves yet and are still blooming and sending out new leaves (pale).

any idea why they haven't gone dormant?

I don't think you are still asking this question after the recent cold weather... The fact is, in their natural environment Fuschias do not go completely dormant. That is because temperatures in S America are never below freezing. It follows therefore if you keep them above freezing they will keep their leaves. Nevertheless at low temperatures their growth becomes extremely slow, so it is wise to keep them dry during this period. Light is not a critical factor in winter for Fuschias.
