Kudzu bugs

We were overrun with them last year and I was hoping the winter would help and they would somewhat go away.
Unfortunately they have stuck around all winter and are already a big nuisance. They are in my house, sucking the life out of my plants and whenever I bring a plant outside to give it a good water they are covered in these pests.

Last year we couldn't even go in the yard without being covered in them and have them in your eyes and hair and it was really their first real year here. I can't amagine what this year is going to be like if it is already this bad. The warmer it gets the worse it gets.

I have checked the internet with little results on how to control them. Is anyone else having a problem with them already? Or have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not familiar with what bug you are describing, but you might contact your local extension service office.

Here is a link that might be useful: UGA Extension service offices by county

The unpleasant description posted above is just the tip of the iceberg of what may become a major ecological problem as even more chemical applications will be needed to control this recently introduced beetle into our environment. According to Clemson experts they estimate the kudzu beetle will be able to survive in all climates which threatens the entire soy bean crop growing in this country, all legume crops and many other types of vegetation. Plus, the very unpleasant odor this critter emits makes it public enemy #1.
It is reproducing and spreading rapidly. No announcement of organic controls that I have heard of yet.

I found an article. Perhaps this weekend's below freezing nights will help.

I thought the only thing that really liked Kudzu was the Japanese Beetle? Other than some goats and craftmakers........

They can have all the kudzu they want but those rascals swarmed my pole beans last year. First time that I had seen them.

Interesting read.

But even they may not be the worst of what appears to be coming to GA ... yet another stink bug.

RE: Kudzu bugs

thank you for the link, cozy. I have had several of these rascals on my house the past week or so. I did not have any over the summer...but I am trying to figure out what they are eating because there isn't a patch of kudzu nearby or any legume that I know. Not within bug flight anyway. I had planned on planting pole beans but maybe not. I'm not looking forward to figuring out what they are living on.
