the days until Spring arrives?
We're over the hump, and only 41 days, 4 hours and 45± minutes until the vernal equinox.
I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of warmer weather and spring flowers.
But, the NOAA/NWS Climate Prediction Center claims that the 90 day outlook is for below normal temperatures and above average rainfall, same as we are experiencing now! |

I am getting all my gardening books out and planning!!!!!!! Also thinking this is good incentive to get the INSIDE of the house clean and organized, so I can focus on the OUTSIDE when it warms up. So far, I'm just reading and drinking coffee! Hee hee~

You bet I'm counting the days! I just got done sowing seeds of my tomatoes and wave petunias in flats under grow-lights. It's probably a tad early, but I figure that when they outgrow the flats, I'll just pot them up in little pots and baby them till last frost has passed. I'm hoping the constant rain and saturated soil has not rotted my spring-blooming bulbs. Bagsmom, those gardening books and catalogs sure do help to pass the time, don't they?

Well, calender spring is one thing and natural spring another. In my estimation, natural spring here in Atlanta area arrives about 3-4 weeks sooner. When daffodiles are bloomings, that is spring to me. Another 4- 5 weeks have to watch for last frost. I have already started some seeds in a cold frame. I may do some eggplants, peppers, basils and tomatoes (just 2 -3 seeds of each) insdie just for the heck of that first harvest craving.

I'm with CG, I found it helps a lot if I count March 1st as the start of spring. That way we have less than three weeks to go! Colder weather is actually good, I'm hoping the peach tree doesn't start blooming too early like it did last year...

This winter's cold has been enduring, but not especially severe - none of my subtropicals (like gardenias, banana shrub, aspidistra) look any worse for the wear. After that miserable drought, I don't think I'll ever complain about rain again. I already see and hear signs of spring - red maple blooms, spring peeper frogs, daffodil leaves pushing up, winter honeysuckle. I travel A LOT for my work, and winter is so short in Georgia compared to so many other places, and this is coming from a Florida boy.
