Why Didn't Dogwood Lose Leaves?

I have 5 large Dogwood trees across the front of my yard which faces south. In the past they have lost their leaves in fall. This year one is bare but the other 4 seem to have all of their leaves although they are burgundy mixed with green. I really can't tell if there are bloom buds on them. In my backyard the Dogwoods lost all of the leaves as did other Dogwoods in my neighborhood near me. Has anyone else experienced this and do you know if the Dogwood will get blooms with the leaves still on the tree?

Well, it's a positive sign that they are red and green ... versus crispy brown!

If they are going to bloom, you should already be able to see fat round buds on the tip of the branches.

I haven't had it happen before, but anything's possible!

Ok, I looked at the buds on the dogwoods and they do all seem to have bloom buds, both the 4 trees with leaves and the one without. So it evidently will bloom, just won't be as pretty with the leaves still on it.

Thought I'd post a follow up. The Dogwoods are all blooming now and are covered with small greenish/white blooms that will open to more mature white blooms in a few days I'm sure but the 4 trees still have all of their burgundy and green leaves. It will be interesting to see if the new leaves push off the old.
