Watermelons and Pumpkins

I bought some watermelon seeds and some pumpkin seeds from Lowe's for fun. I have some space in my backyard to plant these and I wasn't sure when the best time was. I don't really care when the watermelons are ready, but I'd like the pumpkins to be ready in early to mid October.

After all chance of frost, and after the sun warms the soils. I never plant mine before April 1st. You have plenty of time for both! We have a very long season!!

Don't plant the pumpkins until June!

If you sow seeds of them too early, they produce the ripe pumpkin fruits by the end of August, and they become very susceptible to rot from both the summertime heat and the wet soil surface after rains.

Look at the seed packet. If the pumpkin variety says "95 days to maturity", count back 95-100 days from the target date in October you want to harvest the pumpkins. (I'd recommend Oct 1-5 as the target, not Oct. 15).

Sow the watermelon seeds directly where plants are to grow, in early to mid-May.
